The Wayne State University women's basketball team achieved a 71-63 victory over Edinboro at the WSU Fieldhouse. This win marked Edinboro's first road loss of the season.
In the first quarter, Edinboro quickly took a 4-0 lead. However, Wayne State narrowed the gap to 6-5 early on, before Edinboro extended their advantage to 25-12. By the end of the quarter, Wayne State had reduced their deficit to ten points, trailing 27-17.
During the second quarter, Wayne State's defense was strong, allowing only four points while scoring eleven themselves. This effort brought them within one point at halftime with a score of 31-30.
The third quarter saw both teams exchanging leads multiple times. Wayne State gained a five-point advantage when McKenna Ferguson scored a three-pointer, but by the end of the period, both teams were tied at 48.
In the fourth quarter, Shea Tripp's contributions helped secure a lasting lead for Wayne State. Despite Edinboro's efforts to close in during the final minute, Wayne State held firm and won by eight points.
Statistically, Wayne State outperformed Edinboro with a shooting percentage of 43.1% compared to Edinboro's 35.5%. They also led in rebounds and bench scoring.
Key players for Wayne State included McKenna Ferguson with a team-high of 19 points and Shea Tripp with her fourth double-double this season. For Edinboro, Hayley Sims and Ava Haddad led in scoring with Sims contributing a game-high of 22 points.
Wayne State is set to face Cedarville Yellow Jackets next Wednesday at their home court.
