The Wayne State University athletic department and baseball program recently hosted the 14th Annual Trammell/Parrish Camp, drawing over 100 young baseball players to its campus. The event took place on December 7 at the Matthaei Center and Doris J. & Donald L. Duchene, Sr. Athletic Facility.

Alan Trammell and Lance Parrish, both prominent figures in Major League Baseball history, led the camp sessions for participants ranging from grades 2-12. S. Gary Spicer, Sr., a Wayne State alum, facilitated their involvement in this initiative which has seen approximately 4,000 attendees since its inception in 2010.

The morning session focused on defensive skills with Trammell leading the infield training and Parrish conducting catching exercises. In the afternoon, campers participated in offensive drills covering hitting, baserunning, mental strategies, and more.

Trammell spent his entire MLB career with the Detroit Tigers and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2018. He is currently a Special Assistant to the General Manager within the Tigers organization. Parrish also had an illustrious career with multiple accolades and now serves as a Special Assistant to the General Manager for the Tigers after previous managerial roles within their minor league affiliates.

Wayne State head coach Ryan Kelley expressed his gratitude: "Another great camp full of energy, learning, repetitions, and development," he said. Kelley thanked Trammell and Parrish along with coaches and student-athletes for fostering an environment conducive to growth in baseball skills.

Kelley extended appreciation to families who traveled for the event: "A sincere thank you to the families and participants from traveling near and far to join us at this camp experience." He also acknowledged sponsors including Mr. Nick and Vergie Conti among others for their support.
