The Wayne State University swimming and diving teams are set to compete against Saginaw Valley State University on Saturday. This marks their first meet in 41 days, taking place at the Matthaei at 1 p.m. The Warrior men's team is currently ranked 21st, while the women's team holds the 19th spot according to the latest CSCAA rankings.
Head coach Sean Peters acknowledged recent challenges faced by his team during their winter training period. "It's been an 'interesting' week for the Warriors," Peters said. He expressed pride in his team's dedication and determination despite technical difficulties. Peters anticipates a challenging meet, especially for the women, as some SVSU swimmers qualified for NCAA's last year. For the men, he noted that SVSU's use of tech suits gives them an edge: "We are definitely the underdogs on this one."
Saginaw Valley State is led by head coach Jason Lintjer, with Mike Darbee assisting in his fourth season. Their diving team is coached by Grant Porter, a Wayne State alum who earned Honorable Mention All-American honors in 2023.
After this weekend's meet, Wayne State will have three more dual meets before concluding their regular season. They will face Grand Valley State on January 11, Oakland on January 18, and Calvin on January 25 for Senior Day. Each event will start at 1 p.m., leading up to the GLIAC Championships in February and NCAA Championships in March.
