Matthaei Natatorium | Wayne State Warriors
Competing in their first event of the New Year, Wayne State University's women's swimming and diving team secured a victory over Saginaw Valley State with a score of 141-97. The meet took place at the Matthaei facility, where the Warriors excelled by winning 10 out of 13 events.
Head coach Sean Peters commented on the team's performance, saying, "I thought that considering our pool situation this week, that the programs really fought so hard. The women were really strong from start to finish, and I believe that they will continue to improve each and every meet."
Despite facing challenges such as missing their record-setting diver Julio Osuna and competing against a higher-ranked program using tech suits in relays, the Wayne State team remained competitive. Peters expressed pride in his team: "I couldn't be more proud of this program, and I am extremely grateful for the spirit of our Warriors!"
The event saw several standout performances from Wayne State athletes. Elly Belmore participated in three winning events: the 200 medley relay with teammates Delaney Parker, Evie Dice, and Julia Katulski; the 200 IM; and the 100 back. Barbara Munoz also contributed significantly with wins in both the 200 free and 100 fly.
Wen Wadsworth-Curcuru showcased her diving skills by securing victories in both one-meter and three-meter diving categories.
Wayne State's next competition is scheduled against Grand Valley State on January 11th in Allendale.
