The Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team, ranked 21st nationally, faced a narrow defeat against the 14th-ranked Saginaw Valley State University on Saturday afternoon. The meet took place at the Matthaei in Detroit, ending with a score of 129-114 in favor of SVSU.

The Warriors competed in a total of 13 events and secured victories in five of them. Despite the loss, head coach Sean Peters expressed pride in his team's performance under challenging circumstances. "I thought that considering our pool situation this week, that the programs really fought so hard," said Peters. He highlighted the absence of record-setting diver Julio Osuna and noted the competitive nature of their opponents who used tech suits.

Peters praised both the men's and women's teams for their strong performances, emphasizing their determination and spirit. "I couldn't be more proud of this program, and I am extremely grateful for the spirit of our Warriors!" he stated.

Victories for Wayne State included Trevor Jones from Farmington, Michigan winning the 200 free with a time of 1:40.93, Gabriel Arias from Bogota, Colombia taking first in the 200 IM with a time of 1:55.98, John Martin from Brownstown, Michigan securing a win in three-meter diving with a score of 280.43, Olin Charnstrom from Oxford, Michigan claiming victory in the 100 back with a time of 51.23, and Max Wasiniak from Huron, Ohio triumphing in one-meter diving with a score of 281.55.

Wayne State's next competition is scheduled against fifth-ranked Grand Valley State on January 11 at Allendale.
