The Wayne State University men's basketball team experienced a setback in their recent game against Michigan Tech, ending their three-game winning streak. The match, held in Houghton, Michigan, concluded with a 74-68 victory for the Huskies. This win improved Michigan Tech's overall record to 12-4 and maintained their perfect home record at 7-0.
In the first half, both teams had a slow start offensively. Carlos Paul III scored the initial points for Wayne State after nearly three minutes of play. Throughout the first half, there were four ties and two lead changes. Despite these fluctuations, Wayne State managed to pull ahead with a seven-point run led by Tamario Adley and contributions from Adam Ayrault and Jordan Briggs.
Michigan Tech responded by narrowing the gap to one point but failed to take the lead before halftime. Wayne State entered the break with a slim advantage of 27-26. Neither team shot effectively in the first half; Wayne State hit 31 percent of their shots while Michigan Tech made 37 percent.
The second half saw continued shifts in momentum with two more ties and four lead changes early on. Wayne State briefly held a seven-point lead but could not maintain it as Michigan Tech eventually took control. Marcus Tomashek played a pivotal role for Michigan Tech in securing their victory, scoring all ten of his team's final points to maintain their lead.
Wayne State finished shooting 43.6 percent compared to Michigan Tech's 50 percent accuracy from the field. Rob Lee Jr., who recently scored 40 points in another game, led Wayne State with 19 points in this matchup.
Tomashek led Michigan Tech with an impressive performance, scoring a total of 32 points while Dawson Nordgaard contributed an additional 16 points for the Huskies.
Looking ahead, Wayne State is set to face Saginaw Valley State at home on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.
