The 39th National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) will be observed on February 5, 2025. Established on February 3, 1987, NGWSD is celebrated annually across the United States with community events, awards, and activities highlighting notable women student-athletes.

The day acknowledges the achievements of female athletes and emphasizes the benefits of female participation in sports. It also marks progress toward equal representation in sports, referencing Title IX.

Wayne State University initiated women's athletics in 1973 with six teams. Currently, for the 2024-2025 season, there are 140 female student-athletes across ten teams at Wayne State. These athletes maintain a collective GPA of 3.67. In 2024, 131 received Academic All-GLIAC awards for academic excellence, while eight earned All-America honors in competition.

Last year's NGWSD campaign raised over $10,000 for Women's Athletics at Wayne State University (WSU). This year aims to surpass that amount through financial contributions by February 15th via the Support WSU Women's Athletics link.
