Wayne State University's women's track and field team has secured commitments from four student-athletes for the 2025-26 academic year. The announcement was made by head coach Grant Lofdahl, who is in his eighth year with the program. He is supported by associate head coach Nate Miller, throws coach Celine Freeman-Gibb, and graduate assistant Samantha Miller.
The new recruits include jumpers Sohanny Gonzalez from Wyoming, Michigan; Teagan Kimble from Mattawan, Michigan; Sophie Pell from Olivet, Michigan; and thrower Jaeda Tilton from Chesterfield, Michigan.
Sohanny Gonzalez will graduate from Wyoming Potter's House Christian High School in 2025. She has been a standout performer in long jump and high jump events under coach Kristopher Koster. "A great addition to our jumps squad for next year will be Sohanny," said Coach Nate Miller. "Right now, she is performing great in the long jump."
Teagan Kimble comes from Mattawan High School where she excelled in high jump events. Coach Nate Miller expressed enthusiasm about her joining the team: "I am excited to have Teagan join our squad next year." He noted her eagerness to learn more about high jumping during a summer camp.
Sophie Pell hails from Olivet High School and has earned All-League honors multiple times. She participated in various track events including hurdles and relays. Coach Nate Miller praised her competitive spirit: "We are always looking for great students, great athletes, and especially great competitors and Sophie checks off all those boxes."
Jaeda Tilton will join Wayne State University after graduating from Anchor Bay High School where she competed in shot put and discus events. Throws coach Celine Freeman-Gibb commented on her potential: "We are thrilled to have Jaeda joining our throws group in the fall." She highlighted Jaeda's strong academic record alongside her athletic abilities.
These new additions reflect Wayne State University's commitment to building a strong women's track and field program by recruiting talented student-athletes who excel both academically and athletically.
