The Wayne State University women's fencing team achieved three victories at the DeCicco Duals, held at the Castellan Family Fencing Center and hosted by the University of Notre Dame. The wins were secured against Florida, Detroit Mercy, and Georgia Tech.
The team's performance began with a narrow 14-13 victory over Florida, excelling in epee with all nine bouts won but falling short in foil (5-4) and sabre (8-1). Against Detroit Mercy, Wayne State dominated with a 21-4 win, featuring a perfect 9-0 in epee and 6-2 victories in both foil and sabre. In their match against Georgia Tech, the Warriors emerged victorious with a 14-10 score, winning in epee (8-1) and foil (6-0), despite losing all sabre bouts 9-0.
Wayne State faced defeats in five other matches against Notre Dame (23-4), Northwestern (22-5), Denison (15-12), Lawrence (15-12), and Cleveland State (17-10).
In epee competition, Reka Galfalvy from Budapest led the team with 22 bout wins. Salma Abdrabou followed closely with a 19-4 record. Vika Shevchenko contributed by winning 11 out of her 21 bouts.
For foil events, Ludovica Mancini earned 15 wins while Noreen Bongado secured four victories throughout the day.
In sabre, Reagan Byers recorded four bout wins while Mehreen Siddiqui achieved one victory.
The Wayne State University women's fencing team will next compete at the Schiller Duals on February 1st and 2nd at Northwestern.
