Wayne State University's women's basketball team secured a decisive 88-59 victory against Purdue University Northwest in Hammond, Indiana. The win brings Wayne State's record to 12-7 overall and 7-4 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), while Purdue Northwest falls to 5-14 overall and 2-9 in the GLIAC.
The game started with Taylor Thompson scoring first for Wayne State. After some back-and-forth play, McKenna Ferguson's free throws helped Wayne State finish the first quarter with a 21-9 lead. In the second quarter, Wayne State continued its offensive efficiency, extending their lead to 45-28 by halftime.
In the third quarter, Wayne State maintained their momentum, outscoring Purdue Northwest significantly and entering the final quarter with a comfortable lead of 69-40. The fourth quarter saw both teams score evenly with each adding 19 points.
Wayne State shot 50.8% from the field compared to Purdue Northwest's 34.4%. They also dominated in rebounds with a count of 48 to Purdue Northwest's 29 and scored more points in the paint.
Taylor Thompson led Wayne State with a season-high of 22 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. McKenna Ferguson added another strong performance with 21 points. For Purdue Northwest, Alyssa Cole scored a double-double with her contribution of 17 points and ten rebounds.
Wayne State will next face the University of Wisconsin-Parkside on February 1st in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
