Wayne State women’s basketball secures fourth straight win over Wisconsin-Parkside

Wayne State University's women's basketball team secured a victory against the University of Wisconsin-Parkside with a final score of 73-64. This win marks their fourth consecutive triumph.

In the first quarter, both teams exchanged points early on. Taylor Thompson scored for Wayne State, while Cassidy Arni responded for Wisconsin-Parkside. The Rangers then went on an eight-point run, taking a lead of 15-7. Wayne State narrowed the gap with contributions from McKenna Ferguson and Gabi Lutchka but ended the quarter trailing 23-19.

The second quarter saw Wayne State dominate, outscoring Parkside 21-5. Jaci Tubergen led the offensive charge with two three-pointers, while Shea Tripp contributed six rebounds. By halftime, Wayne State held a 40-28 advantage.

Wisconsin-Parkside started strong in the third quarter with Arni scoring a three-pointer to reduce their deficit. However, Wayne State responded quickly and maintained their lead throughout the period, closing it at 55-46.

In the final quarter, Parkside attempted a comeback but could not overcome Wayne State's lead. The Warriors closed out the game by scoring five unanswered points to secure their sixth win in seven games.

Wayne State made 49% of their shots compared to Parkside's 44%. They also had a slight edge in rebounding with 32 compared to Parkside's 30.

Ferguson led Wayne State with 19 points, followed by Tripp with 18 points and Thompson with 15 points. Tripp also achieved a double-double by grabbing ten rebounds and providing seven assists.

For Wisconsin-Parkside, Chloe Van Zeeland was the top scorer with 16 points. Lillie Petersen recorded a double-double with 13 points and eleven rebounds.

Wayne State will next face Michigan Tech University at home on February 5th at 5:30 PM.
