Wayne State women's track breaks records at Louisville and SVSU events

The Wayne State University women's indoor track and field team wrapped up a split squad weekend by participating in two events: the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational at the University of Louisville and the Jet's Pizza Invitational hosted by Saginaw Valley State University.

In Louisville, senior Emily Gordon from Northville, Michigan, set a new WSU record in the mile. She clocked a time of 4:57.54, surpassing the previous record of 4:58.23 set by Thailyia Christensen on February 3, 2024. Additionally, the 4x400m relay team consisting of Elyse Miller from Woodhaven, Michigan; Avery Wilson from Davison, Michigan; Makenzie Wellner from Menominee, Michigan; and Renae Kutcha from Jackson, Michigan achieved an NCAA Provisional time with their second-fastest performance in program history at 3:49.98. This time is approximately ranked 22nd nationally.

Results from the Lenny Lyles Invitational included:

- In the mile event (previous school record - 4:58.23), Emily Gordon finished 13th with her new school record of 4:57.54.

- In the 60m hurdles (school record - 8.505), Megan Zahnow placed 26th with a time of 9.19.

- The high jump saw Olivia Findlay compete but did not register a height.

At SVSU's Jet's Pizza Invitational:

- Lauren Wooten ran in the 60m dash (school record - 7.48) finishing sixth with a time of 7.94.

- Annalise Elliott competed in the 800m run (school record -2:12.19), securing the 23rd position with a time of 2:25.40.

- In high jump (school record -1.69m), Ava Steinhebel tied for sixth place with a leap of 1.52 meters.

Next on Wayne State’s schedule is another visit to University Center for the W-C-W Invitational hosted by SVSU on Saturday, February 8.
