Wayne State University's men's basketball team faced a challenging game against the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, ending in an 80-63 defeat. The match, held on Saturday afternoon in Kenosha, Wisconsin, saw both teams entering with identical overall records of 10-10.
The first half began with a quick exchange of three-pointers between UWP's Josiah Palmer and WSU's Carmelo Harris. Despite efforts from Wayne State players like Rob Lee Jr. and Carlos Paul III to narrow the gap, Parkside maintained control throughout the first half, leading 37-30 at halftime.
In the second half, Wayne State struggled to find their rhythm early on but managed to cut into Parkside's lead with contributions from Adam Ayrault and Tamario Adley. However, consistent scoring by Parkside players such as Ethan Ivan and Jack Rose kept Wayne State at bay. Ultimately, UWP secured their victory by maintaining a strong lead through strategic plays and effective shooting.
Wayne State shot 46 percent from the field compared to Parkside's 56 percent. Both teams had similar performances beyond the arc and at the free-throw line. In terms of rebounds, UWP edged out WSU slightly with a 31-27 advantage.
For Wayne State, Tamario Adley led with 16 points and nine rebounds. Carlos Paul III scored 15 points without missing a shot attempt, while Carmelo Harris added 14 points with three successful triples. Jordan Briggs contributed three assists for his team.
Jack Rose was pivotal for Parkside with a game-high score of 24 points. Josiah Palmer supported his team significantly with 19 points and six assists. Ethan Ivan also played well by contributing both offensively and defensively alongside Matas Castillo.
Looking ahead, Wayne State is set to host Michigan Tech on Thursday evening in another GLIAC conference matchup.
