Wayne State's women's swim team secures second place on first day of GLIAC Championships

Wayne State University's women's swimming and diving team completed the first day of the 2025 GLIAC Championships in second place among five competing teams. Graduate student Barbara Munoz led the team's performance by winning the 1000 free with an NCAA B Cut time of 10:01.98. The second day of preliminaries is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday.

The team standings after day one are as follows: Grand Valley State leads with 327 points, followed by Wayne State with 208 points, Northern Michigan with 166 points, Davenport with 110 points, and Saginaw Valley State with 80 points.

In the events, Wayne State's results included a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay by Elly Belmore, Delaney Parker, Evie Dice, and Sabine Branford with a time of 1:43.32.

In the individual events, Munoz's victory in the 1000 free was complemented by Alli Vassilakos finishing second with a time of 10:02.69 and Diana Muccioli placing eighth at 10:21.38, both achieving NCAA B Cut times.

Elly Belmore took third place in the 200 IM with an NCAA B Cut time of 2:04.79. In the 50 free event, Sabine Branford secured third place at an NCAA B Cut time of 23.60.

In diving, Alicia Viaches finished fifth in the one-meter event scoring 397.50 points.

Finally, in the 200 free relay event, Sabine Branford, Julia Katulski, Kate Rhodes, and Alli Vassilakos finished third with a time of 1:34.63.
