Wayne State holds third as Munoz wins GLIAC swimming title

Barbara Munoz secured her second 200 fly GLIAC Championship title on Friday night, marking another achievement in her distinguished career. This victory adds to her collection of seven league championships, including three individual titles, with the most recent being the 1000 free earlier this week. Wayne State University maintained its position in third place among the five competing teams, accumulating a total of 493 points.

The team standings after day three are as follows: Grand Valley State leads with 851.5 points, Northern Michigan is in second place with 558.5 points, followed by Wayne State with 493 points. Davenport and Saginaw Valley State hold fourth and fifth places with 323 and 232 points respectively.

In the 500 free championship final, Alli Vassilakos finished fifth with a time of 4:58.62, achieving an NCAA B Cut, while Diana Muccioli placed eighth at 5:01.31, also meeting the NCAA B Cut standard. In the consolation final for this event, Emily Hedley came in eleventh with a time of 5:04.23.

For the 100 back consolation final, Evie Dice finished tenth at 58.14 seconds and Kate Rhodes thirteenth at 58.55 seconds.

Delaney Parker secured third place in the championship final of the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.28. In the consolation final for this event, Julia Katulski and Sabine Branford placed thirteenth and sixteenth respectively.

In addition to winning the championship final for the 200 fly with an NCAA A Cut time of 1:59.04 and setting a new GLIAC meet record, Barbara Munoz was joined by Elly Belmore who finished sixth and Emma Crispo who placed eighth in the same event's championship final.

In diving events on the three-meter board, Wen Wadsworth-Curcuru took eighth place scoring 365.05 points while Alicia Viaches and Zoe Wood followed in ninth and thirteenth positions respectively.

The Wayne State team also excelled in relay events; their performance in the women's 800 free relay earned them second place with a time of 7:27.61 which met NCAA B Cut standards. The relay team comprised Barbara Munoz, Emily Hedley, Elly Belmore, and Alli Vassilakos.
