Wayne State University's men's tennis team experienced its first defeat of the season, falling to Western Michigan University with a score of 5-2. This loss brings Wayne State's record to 5-1, while Western Michigan improves to 10-5.
In doubles play, Wayne State secured an early advantage by winning two out of three matches. The duo of George Day and Cedric Drenth triumphed over Anton Arzhankin and Oscar Corwin with a score of 6-3. Meanwhile, Sam Knowles and Tom Wasner claimed victory against Drew Evans and Alexander Antonopoulos in a tight match that ended 7-6 (7-2). However, Benjamin Hill and Luis Klaus were defeated by Jack Davison and Ashton Adesoro, losing 6-0.
In singles competition, Benjamin Hill was the only player from Wayne State to secure a win. He defeated Dimitri Moriarty in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4. Other players from Wayne State faced challenges; Drenth lost to Arzhankin 6-2, 6-2, while Day fell to Adesoro 6-4, 6-3. Wasner endured a narrow defeat with scores of 7-6, 6-7, and 0-1. Klaus and Knowles also struggled in their respective matches.
The team is set to compete again on Saturday, March 4th against Hillsdale College at the Doris J. & Donald L. Duchene Sr. Athletic Facility.
