Wayne State University's men's basketball team secured an 81-70 victory over Davenport University on Saturday afternoon. This win marks Wayne State's third triumph in their last four games, improving their overall record to 14-12 and their conference record to 10-8 in the GLIAC.
The first half saw a competitive exchange, with Wayne State initially taking a lead thanks to senior Ray Williams, Jr.'s dunk and junior Carmelo Harris' tip-in. However, Davenport responded with a series of points that put them ahead. Despite this, Wayne State managed to close the gap, ending the half trailing by just two points at 35-33.
In the second half, both teams continued to battle closely until Wayne State began to pull away. Notable performances included Harris scoring 19 points and Jordan Briggs contributing 15 points off the bench. Rob Lee, Jr., added another 12 points for the Warriors.
Davenport's Jovan Tucker led his team with 18 points while Aidan Moon achieved a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Wayne State will finish its regular season with home games against Ferris State on February 27th and Lake Superior State on March 1st.
