Wayne State University women's basketball player Shea Tripp has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week. The announcement was made by the league office following Tripp's significant contributions to two home court victories that concluded the regular season.
Tripp, a senior forward from Jackson, Michigan, led her team with high-scoring performances in both games. She scored 15 points in a win against Ferris State and 19 points in a victory over Lake Superior. In the 68-53 win over Ferris State last Thursday, Tripp also secured eight rebounds and provided five assists, tying for game-high honors in both categories.
In the subsequent game against Lake Superior State University, Tripp achieved game-best figures with 10 rebounds and five assists. Her three steals matched teammate Koko Sylvester for the highest number in that game.
Over the week, Tripp accumulated 34 points at an average of 17.0 points per game and collected 18 rebounds averaging 9.0 rebounds per game. She maintained a shooting accuracy of 62 percent from the floor and shot 43 percent from beyond the arc. Additionally, she was successful on five out of six free throw attempts, achieving an accuracy of 83 percent. Tripp also contributed with ten assists, five steals, and two blocks as Wayne State won both matches to secure a home court playoff position.
The Wayne State women's basketball team is set to compete again on Wednesday, March 5th when they host the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in the quarterfinal round of the GLIAC Tournament. The match will take place at WSU Fieldhouse with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 PM.
