Wayne State University senior Emily Gordon has been selected to compete in the NCAA Division 2 Indoor Track & Field National Championships. The event will take place from March 13-15 in Indianapolis as part of the NCAA D2 Sports Festival. Gordon will participate in the 800m run, marking her as the first WSU runner to qualify for this event in the program's 13-year history. The preliminaries for the 800m are scheduled for Friday, March 14 at 2:30 p.m., with finals set for Saturday, March 15 at 4 p.m.

The NCAA selection committee chose the top 18 athletes in each individual event and the top 12 teams for each relay category (DMR and 4x400). Gordon has been a consistent performer for Wayne State over her four years with the team. In her freshman year in 2021, she was named women's cross country Newcomer of the Year. At the GLIAC Indoor Championships in 2022, she finished sixth in the 800m run and contributed to a fourth-place finish in the DMR. She also scored an eighth-place finish in the 1,500m run at that year's GLIAC Outdoor meet.

As a sophomore, Gordon competed at both the NCAA Midwest Regional and national championship meets with her cross country squad. She placed third in the GLIAC Indoor Championships' 800m race and was part of a third-place DMR team. Her performance included a seventh-place finish at the GLIAC Outdoor Championships' 800m run.

During her junior year (2023-24), after redshirting during indoor season, she secured third place in the outdoor season's GLIAC Championship's 800m run. Earlier this year, she earned Second Team All-GLIAC honors with a twentieth-place finish at the GLIAC Cross Country Championships of that season.

Last month saw Gordon achieve a career-best time of 2:09.54 in an indoor meet at GVSU Big Meet-Friday before securing second place at this year's GLIAC Indoor Championships with a time of 2:11.00.
