Wayne State defeats Ave Maria in men's tennis match during Spring Break

Wayne State University's men's tennis team secured a 5-1 victory over Ave Maria University in Orlando, Florida. This match marked the beginning of WSU's Spring Break tour.

Weather conditions prevented the teams from competing in doubles matches, but singles play proceeded as planned. Cedric Drenth and George Day delivered strong performances at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions respectively. Drenth won against AJ Duggan with scores of 6-1, 3-6, and 9-7 in a tie-breaker set. Day triumphed over Pedro Garcia with scores of 6-2 and 6-1.

Tom Wasner played in the No. 3 position for Wayne State, defeating Andreu Solvia with scores of 6-3 and 7-6 (7-5). Luis Klaus faced Juan Ignacio Garcia at No. 4; after losing the first set 6-1, Klaus rallied to win the second set but was defeated in a close tie-breaker set.

In other matches, Benjamin Hill and Sam Knowles claimed victories at No. 5 and No. 6 positions respectively. Hill won against Joao Almeida with scores of 7-6 (7-5) and 7-5, while Knowles overcame Nolan Smith with scores of 7-6 (7-5) and 6-1.

The next challenge for Wayne State's men's tennis team is against Barry University on Thursday, March 6th.
