Wayne State women's tennis falls to Barry University

Wayne State University's women's tennis team faced a tough match against Barry University, resulting in a 6-0 defeat. The loss places Wayne State at an even 2-2 record for the season.

In doubles play, Anais Ruyssen and Dea Gorgidze secured a victory over Alina Michalitsch and Ailen Crespo with a score of 6-4 in the No. 1 spot. However, their efforts were not enough to claim the doubles point as the other two pairs from Wayne State were defeated. Malak Arafat and Shantala Uzcategui lost 6-4 to Viktoriia Dema and Margaryta Malakhova in the No. 2 position, while Justine Beaulieu and Dessyre Obedencio fell 6-3 to Dinara Alloiarova and Maria Tatarnikova in the No. 3 slot.

The singles competition saw Barry University sweeping all matches. Ruyssen faced Dema in the top singles position but was defeated 6-3, 6-0. Arafat initially won her first set against Michalitsch but ultimately lost with scores of 2-6, 5-10. Gorgidze's match against Alloiarova was left incomplete.

Angela Leweurs defeated Beaulieu with scores of 6-4, 6-4 in their encounter at the No. 4 position. Uzcategui and Obedencio also suffered defeats; Uzcategui lost to Crespo at 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 5 slot, while Obedencio was bested by Tatarnikova at a score of 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 6 slot.

The Wayne State women's tennis team will look to rebound on Tuesday, March 11, when they face Nova Southeastern University at NSU Tennis Complex at Rolling Hills with matches starting at 2:00 PM.
