The Wayne State University men's golf team is leading the Ohio Dominican's Pawleys Island Beach Bash after the first round. The event is taking place at The Founders Club in Pawleys Island, South Carolina. The Warriors, ranked 25th, posted a score of one-over 289 to top the 15-team field.

Max Leppelmeier from Wauseon, Ohio, and Josh DiCarlo from Amherstburg, Ontario, are tied for first place individually with scores of four-under 68. Head coach Mike Horn commented on their performance: "After a very sluggish start, Max and Josh really got it going," he said. "They both finished strong and saved our rear end today."

Horn acknowledged areas for improvement but expressed optimism about the team's potential. "This truly is a team game where you have to count on everybody in the lineup contributing," he noted. He also emphasized the importance of starting strong in the next round: "We've got to be ready from the very first tee shot tomorrow morning."

Other Wayne State players' standings include Shawn Sehra at T16 with a score of 75 (+3), Luc Warnock and Josh Lahner both at T24 with scores of 76 (+4), Andrew Daily at T31 with a score of 77 (+5), Harrison Chapman at T38 with a score of 78 (+6), Ian Smith at T47 with a score of 80 (+8), and Tyler Hurtubise at T63 with a score of 83 (+11).

USC Beaufort is currently in second place with a team score of three-over 291, followed by Gannon in third place with six-over 294.

The second round will begin Thursday morning at 8:15 a.m.
