The Wayne State University women's basketball team was defeated by Grand Valley State University (GVSU) in the second round of the NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament. The game ended with a score of 87-54 in favor of GVSU.
During the first quarter, GVSU took an early lead, scoring the first four points and maintaining their advantage throughout the period. Wayne State managed to close the gap slightly but trailed 24-15 at the end of the quarter.
In the second quarter, GVSU continued to dominate offensively, extending their lead significantly. Wayne State struggled to keep up, and by halftime, GVSU led 46-21.
The third quarter saw GVSU furthering their lead with a strong start. Despite efforts from Wayne State players like Gabi Lutchka and Alyssa Leister, GVSU maintained control and finished the quarter leading 66-33.
In the final quarter, both teams experienced scoring droughts. However, Wayne State outscored GVSU 19-16 during this period, with contributions from Ally Shagena.
Wayne State's senior class completed their tenure with a record of 68 wins and 47 losses over four seasons. This season marked only the third time in history that a Wayne State basketball team played in 32 contests.
Statistically, GVSU had a shooting percentage of 52% compared to Wayne State's 39%. They also outrebounded Wayne State significantly.
Alyssa Leister led Wayne State with ten points while Shea Tripp contributed nine rebounds and six assists. For GVSU, Rylie Bisballe scored 19 points as Paige Vanstee and MacKenzie Bisballe also reached double digits in scoring.
