Wayne State University baseball team faced a narrow defeat against Findlay in their 2025 home opener, losing 4-3. Despite the efforts of Wayne State, Findlay secured a win with a decisive run in the ninth inning.

The game remained scoreless until the fifth inning when Mason McGuire of Wayne State hit a single to bring in Caleb Sanders. However, Findlay responded with two runs in the sixth and added another in the seventh, creating a two-run lead.

Wayne State tied the game in the bottom of the seventh. McGuire hit a groundout to bring in Ty Garza, and Owen Tuccinardi executed a sacrifice fly that allowed Brady Blakita to score. Despite their efforts in the bottom of the ninth, with loaded bases, Wayne State could not convert their opportunity. Tony Hatzigeorgiou struck out and Drew Hill grounded out, ending the game in Findlay’s favor.

Wayne State's pitching staff, consisting of Braylon Laroo, Macio Miller, Coy Plummer, Carson Tehan, and Ethan Getting, managed to keep Findlay's score manageable by not allowing any earned runs. Nonetheless, Getting was tagged with the loss, affecting his season record.

The team will play a four-game series against Roosevelt in an upcoming GLIAC matchup starting Friday.
