The Wayne State University baseball team achieved a significant milestone in their recent series against Roosevelt, winning all four games. The final game, held on Sunday, ended with a 4-3 victory. This win marked the 500th career victory for their head coach, Ryan Kelley, who has been leading the team for 17 years. His record now stands at 500-319-1 with a winning percentage of .610.
In the game, Wayne State took an early lead in the first inning with Reagan Paulina scoring Caleb Sanders via a sacrifice fly. Tony Hatzigeorgiou later contributed with a fly ball that, due to a fielding error, allowed Bennett Hitzelberger and Jacoby Dale to score. Mason McGuire added an insurance run in the third inning with a double that brought in Paulina.
Roosevelt fought back, narrowing the gap in the sixth inning. The ninth inning saw them close the margin to one run, setting the stage for a tense finish. Ethan Getting replaced Nick Baker on the mound, ultimately securing the victory by forcing a final out at shortstop, with help from Ty Garza.
Starting pitcher Braylon Laroo secured his second win of the season, pitching five innings and allowing two earned runs. Nick Baker followed, delivering nearly a four-inning save before being replaced by Getting, who achieved his second save with a brief yet crucial performance.
Wayne State will face Findlay next, with the first pitch scheduled for Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Ohio.
