Wayne State University's softball team is set to conclude its GLIAC regular-season home games with two doubleheaders on the horizon. The team, boasting an 18-21 overall record and a 7-9 conference record, will face Roosevelt University this Saturday followed by Parkside on Sunday, which will also serve as Senior Day.
Reflecting on past performances, Wayne State defeated Roosevelt twice last month in Rosemont, Illinois. Meanwhile, the Warriors have maintained a close 27-25 historic lead over Parkside since 1992, despite the Rangers' recent success in the last five encounters.
Returning to the starting lineup is senior Rylie Josephson, after a 26-game hiatus due to injury. Freshman Katelyn DeWitt and Elly Koopman have made significant contributions, with batting averages over .360. Logan Forman leads with eight home runs and holds the team's highest slugging percentage.
Grace Fisher heads the pitching for Wayne State with nine wins and 61 strikeouts. Sydney Long and Hayden Batton also provide strong performances on the mound.
Coach Nicole Tines, in her fourth year, has guided the team to 18 wins this season. In opposition, Roosevelt University, newly entered into NCAA Division 2, is 10-22 overall with sophomore Ella Dvoracek topping the averages and Caitlin Williams excelling in stolen bases.
Parkside, standing at a 16-16 overall record, features notable players like the reigning GLIAC Player of the Year Mia Johnson. Johnson ranks second nationally in home runs while Olivia Masnica leads their pitching staff.
Wayne State will then host Tiffin University on April 15 before traveling to Ferris State and Davenport for further matches.
