The Wayne State University women's outdoor track and field team is preparing to compete in the Central Michigan Chippewa Challenge on Saturday at the CMU Lyle Bennett Outdoor Track. The event will feature various track and field events throughout the day.
The scheduling begins at 10:00 AM with events like the shot put and the hammer throw, where standout athletes, such as Idalia Shadhaya from Bloomfield Hills and Makayla Stewart from Novi, are expected to compete. The day's schedule also includes the 100-meter hurdles set for 1:15 PM, featuring Keneisha Thomas and her teammates Makenzie Wellner and Megan Zahnow.
One of the team members, Rachel Felstow, will participate in both the 400-meter dash and the 800-meter run. Natalie Davies, Taylor Hopkins, and Reagan Justice will compete in the 1,500-meter run. Hanne Bastiaansen is set to run in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, likely aiming to challenge her previous performance records.
In mid-afternoon, the 200-meter dash will feature athletes such as Tianna Bennett, Iyana Coates, Emmanuela Johnson, and Lauren Wooten. Later, Natalie Davies and Sarah Greb will be competing in the 3,000-meter run.
In field events, Olivia Findlay, along with other competitors, will be participating in the high jump and long jump starting at 11:00 AM.
Additionally, the men’s cross country team members, including Kenny Minto and Tyler Brothers, will also be competing, with events such as the 1,500-meter run at 12:30 PM and the 5,000-meter run at 12:00 PM.
Following this competition, several athletes from the women's team are set to travel to California next week for various competitions, aiming to continue showcasing their talents on a broader stage.
