Wayne State University's baseball team fell to Saginaw Valley State in their series opener, losing 9-2 on Friday afternoon. Despite leading 2-0 after three innings, Wayne State was unable to maintain their momentum as Saginaw Valley scored nine runs in the following six innings. The teams will continue their series with a doubleheader on Saturday.

Wayne State's initial runs were scored in the second inning, with Mason McGuire and Drew Hill contributing to the board. Saginaw Valley responded consistently, scoring in every inning from the fourth to the eighth.

WSU starter Will DeMasse had a taxing day on the mound. He surrendered six runs—three of them earned—over six and one-third innings, giving up four hits, walking five, and striking out two with a total of 100 pitches.

In relief, Carson Tehan allowed three earned runs on three hits, with two walks over 20 pitches. Coy Plummer managed a clean eighth inning in just nine pitches.
