Wayne State University has announced that senior basketball forward Shea Tripp and men's swimming graduate student Trevor Jones have been selected as recipients of the GLIAC Commissioner's Award. The league office revealed the honors in a recent announcement.

Shea Tripp has achieved the distinction of becoming just the second women's basketball student-athlete from WSU to receive this award, following in the footsteps of Sam Cherney, a 2022 recipient. Tripp has earned several accolades, including a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honor for three consecutive years and a First Team All-GLIAC recognition for two years in a row. On the court, she led in scoring for the Warriors and has made significant contributions across various performance metrics.

Academically, Tripp majors in Health and Physical Education Teaching and has consistently been part of the Warrior Elite, maintaining a high GPA throughout her time at WSU. Her involvement goes beyond the classroom, having actively participated in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Athlete Well-Being Committee. Notably, her community engagement also earned her a place on the Allstate NACDA Good Works Team.

Trevor Jones has been recognized as a two-time recipient of the GLIAC Commissioner's Award, an achievement shared only by a few male swimmers at WSU. Jones, who completed his bachelor's degree in Finance in just two and a half years, is currently pursuing an MBA. His academic performance has been exemplary, having achieved perfect term GPAs multiple times.

In addition to his academic accomplishments, Jones has been acknowledged for his swimming prowess, garnering First Team CSCAA Scholar All-America honors. Over his athletic career, Jones has been an 11-time All-American and a consistent top performer in swimming events during his tenure at WSU.

The criteria for receiving the GLIAC Commissioner's Award include a minimum GPA requirement and a proven track record in sports. With these latest additions, the number of WSU student-athletes recognized by the GLIAC has reached 88 since the program's inception in the 2007-08 academic year. This figure ranks second in the conference's 18-year history.

"Selections of Jones and Tripp increase the number of WSU student-athletes recognized to 88 since the conference instituted this award for the 2007-08 academic year," stated the announcement. "The 88 honorees for WSU is second most in the conference during the 18-year history of the program."

GLIAC Commissioner's Awards are awarded after each athletic season to six male and six female student-athletes who excel both academically and in their sports.
