Wayne State University's baseball team played against the ninth-ranked Grand Valley State University team in a series opener. The game took place in Allendale, Michigan, where Wayne State initially led 2-1 by the middle of the fourth inning. Despite this early lead, Grand Valley State claimed victory with a final score of 9-4, largely due to a six-run burst in the bottom of the fourth inning. Both teams are set to face each other again in a doubleheader on Friday starting at 1 p.m.

Wayne State's first two runs were scored through solo home runs. Caleb Sanders, hailing from Eastpointe, Michigan, hit his second home run of the season in the second inning. Reagan Paulina, from Highland, Michigan, added another in the fourth inning, tying for the team lead with four home runs.

The Warriors scored two additional runs in the eighth inning. Sanders contributed by drawing a bases-loaded walk that brought Drew Hill home. Following that, Bennett Hitzelberger's groundout allowed Jacoby Dale to score.

Pitchers for Wayne State, Will DeMasse, Coy Plummer, and Keegan Pulford-Thorpe, collectively completed eight innings. DeMasse faced the loss with a 2-3 record, while Pulford-Thorpe maintained a streak of seven innings without giving up an earned run.
