Members of the Wayne State University women's outdoor track and field team participated in three competitions across California on Friday, showcasing strong performances in various track and field events. Freshman hurdler Megan Zahnow notably competed in the 100-meter hurdles twice, finishing with times of 14.92 seconds at the Cal State LA Twilight Open and 14.91 seconds at the University of La Verne Leopard Invitational.
At the Azusa Pacific University Bryan Clay Invitational, Rachel Felstow completed the 800-meter run in 2:14.11, marking the fourth-fastest time in school history. In the 5,000-meter run, Annalee Misch finished 38th with a time of 17:56.96, with teammates Mattie Drennan and Aubrey Migoski close behind.
During the Cal State LA Twilight Open, Hanne Bastiaansen finished seventh in the 100-meter dash, and Elyse Miller placed sixth in the 200-meter dash, setting the eighth-fastest time in school history. Keneisha Thomas secured second place in the 100-meter hurdles, with Zahnow finishing third. Makenzie Wellner placed third in the 400-meter hurdles and had another solid performance in the long jump.
In field events, Nicole Warren competed in the long jump and triple jump, and Makayla Stewart placed second in the shot put. Additionally, Ania Toboy delivered strong performances in both the shot put and discus, achieving her sixth-highest throw in school history.
At the University of La Verne Leopard Invitational, Zahnow advanced to the finals in the 100-meter hurdles. Peyton Hansen also performed well in the javelin, achieving third place with a throw of 34.14 meters.
Wayne State University will continue their participation in various events, with 36 members scheduled to compete at multiple locations, including the Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invitational and the University of La Verne Leopard Invitational. Nineteen student-athletes will participate at the Oakland University Elaine Leigh Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
