Wayne State University's junior swimmer Elly Belmore received Academic All-America distinction from the College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Tuesday. Belmore, hailing from St. Clair Shores, Mich., was named to the Academic All-America Second Team.
Exemplifying strong academic performance, Belmore, an Exercise and Sport Science major, has consistently been on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll with a GPA of 3.5 or higher, achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA in each of her last three semesters. She's also a two-time CSCAA First Team Scholar All-American for the years 2023 and 2024, with 2025 yet to be announced. This summer, Belmore will earn her second consecutive GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team recognition and the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award.
In her athletic career, Belmore recently earned Second Team All-America honors as part of the 13th-place 800 Free Relay. She achieved similar recognition in 2023 in the 12th-place 400 Free Relay. Over her three years, she has participated in 11 events at the NCAA Championships, including the 400 Free Relay (2023), 200 IM (2023, 2024), 400 IM (2023, 2024), 200 Fly (2023), 200 Medley Relay (2023, 2024), 100 Back (2024), 200 Back (2024), and 800 Free Relay (2025).
Belmore is also a nine-time All-GLIAC performer, securing top ranks in events like the 200 IM, 400 IM, 200 Back, and 800 Free Relay across various years. Her accolade marks the third consecutive year in which a member of Wayne State's women's swimming and diving program has earned CSC Academic All-America honors. Before the pandemic, the program had selections for nine straight seasons (2010-2018).
This recognition is the 99th for a Wayne State student-athlete in the history of the Academic All-American program and the 74th since 2002. The program is supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure, aiding in awards fulfillment for the 2024-25 Division II Academic All-America program.
