The Wayne State University women's golf team is set to compete in the upcoming GLIAC Championships, marking the start of their postseason. The event will take place at Stonehedge North Golf Course in Augusta, Michigan. The Warriors are among nine teams aiming to dethrone the current champions, Grand Valley State, and claim their first title in history.
The competition begins with a practice round on Thursday, followed by 18 holes of stroke play on both Friday and Saturday. Individual Medalist Honors will be awarded for the Stroke Play Championship. The top four teams will then progress to the Medal Match Play Championship semifinals, with finalists competing on Sunday.
Representing Wayne State, Claudia Portillo will lead the lineup, accompanied by Ting-Yu Kuo, Sabel Imesch, Sophia Wygonik, and Orianna Bylsma. While Imesch has prior experience with her third conference tournament appearance, her teammates are relatively new to the event. Portillo, Kuo, and Wygonik will compete for the first time, while Bylsma will make her second appearance after participating in 2022-23.
The tournament field includes teams ranked nationally: #10 Grand Valley State, #37 Ferris State, #68 Wayne State, #70 Davenport, #88 Saginaw Valley State, #126 Purdue Northwest, #149 Northern Michigan, #159 Parkside, and #160 Lake Superior State.
