The Wayne State University baseball team faced off against Davenport University in a two-game series over the weekend. Wayne State clinched a narrow victory of 9-8 in the first game of the series, which was initially suspended and concluded the following day. The second game ended with Davenport securing a 9-0 win.

In the first game, which spanned across Friday and early Saturday, Wayne State displayed resilience with a match marked by various lead changes and impressive plays. Wayne State's offensive efforts were highlighted by Mason McGuire, who hit a crucial three-run home run in the eighth inning, granting the Warriors the edge needed to claim the win.

Friday’s game opened with Davenport scoring first in the top of the second inning. Wayne State quickly responded, scoring four times in the same inning. Davenport regained the lead with subsequent scores in the third and fourth innings. Wayne State fought back, with Caleb Sanders’ triple in the fourth inning propelling them ahead temporarily. Ultimately, McGuire's home run in the eighth affirmed Wayne State's victory.

Keegan Pulford-Thorpe started the game for Wayne State, while Will DeMasse, Miles Jamieson, and Ethan Getting contributed from the bullpen. Lucas Getting managed to secure the win with his performance in the latter part of the game.

In the second game, Davenport’s pitcher, Keegan Batka, delivered a formidable performance, nearly completing a no-hitter until late in the eighth inning. Batka's dominant pitching limited Wayne State's opportunities, resulting in Davenport's shutout victory. Wayne State's Braylon Laroo took the loss, pitching four innings.

The teams are slated for a doubleheader on Sunday, with the first game scheduled to start at noon.
