The Wayne State University women's outdoor track and field team is set to participate in the GLIAC Championships in Allendale this Thursday and Friday. The team has consistently performed well in previous years, finishing second in 2022 and third in both 2023 and 2024. The Championships begin on Wednesday, but Wayne State will not have any participants in the Heptathlon.
The competition will commence with the 1,500m prelims on Thursday at 2:30 PM, featuring Paige McArdle and Aubrey Migoski. The 100m hurdles prelims follow at 3 PM with Keneisha Thomas, Makenzie Wellner, and Megan Zahnow competing. The 400m dash prelims are scheduled for 3:25 PM, and Wayne State will be represented by Tianna Bennett, Renae Kutcha, and Avery Wilson.
The 100m dash prelims will take place at 3:55 PM with Emmanuela Johnson, Catalla Jones, Elyse Miller, Rachel Overgaard, and Lauren Wooten testing their speed. Later, the 800m run prelims will see Rachel Felstow, Anna Gdowski, and Meagan Verellen compete at 4:25 PM. The 400m hurdles prelims will start at 5:05 PM, with Thomas, Wellner, and Zahnow representing Wayne State again.
The 200m dash prelims, occurring at 5:40 PM, will include Hanne Bastiaansen, Johnson, Miller, and Overgaard. The day will conclude with the 3,000m steeplechase final at 6:10 PM, featuring Sarah Greb and Taylor Hopkins. At 6:45 PM, the 10,000m run final will feature Natalie Davies, Mattie Drennan, Reagan Justice, and Annalee Misch.
Field events include the javelin final at 3 PM with Peyton Hansen and Ania Toboy. The hammer final will be at 4:30 PM, seeing Makayla Stewart and Toboy compete. The long jump final at 5:30 PM features Olivia Findlay, Annabelle Smith, and Nicole Warren.
Bringing its events to a close on Friday, the team will compete in the 4x100m relay at 11:10 AM with Jones, Miller, Bastiaansen, Overgaard, Wilson, Johnson, and Wooten. Finals for several running and jumping events follow throughout the day, including the 1,500m final, the 100m hurdles final, and the 400m dash final, among others.
Field events on Friday feature the discus final at 10 AM with Stewart and Toboy, the high jump final also at 10 AM with Findlay, Gracie Klink, and Ava Steinhebel, and the shot put final at noon with Stewart and Toboy. The triple jump final at noon will see competition from Findlay, Kutcha, Steinhebel, and Warren.
The Warriors are prepared to put forth their best efforts in their respective events, aiming to surpass their previous performances at these championships.
