Wayne State University's baseball team emerged victorious against Parkside in their series opener on Friday, securing a 10-7 win at Harwell Field. Leading by a significant margin of seven runs at one point, the Wayne State Warriors held off the Parkside Rangers. Wayne State's overall record now stands at 23-24, with a conference record of 11-10 in the GLIAC, while Parkside's records are slightly better at 28-18 and 10-11, respectively.
The Warriors' scoring was distributed across several innings, tallying single scores in the first and second innings, followed by four runs in the third, three in the fourth, and an additional run in the sixth. This offensive effort led to back-to-back games with double-digit scores for Wayne State, a feat achieved for the third time this season. The team also recorded 10 or more base hits for the twelfth time this spring.
Top performers for Wayne State included Jacoby Dale, Aidan Arbogast, and Tony Hatzigeorgiou, each contributing two hits. Notably, Aidan Arbogast hit a grand slam in the third inning, marking his fourth of the season. Jacoby Dale delivered a two-run triple in the fourth inning. Ty Garza added to the offense with a solo home run in the sixth.
Caleb Sanders, Reagan Paulina, and Mason McGuire also contributed to the team's runs through strategic plays such as a wild pitch, a sacrifice bunt, and a sacrifice fly, respectively.
Nick Baker secured the win for Wayne State, pitching five innings and allowing four earned runs on three hits. TJ McAllister and Coy Plummer provided support from the bullpen, each giving up minimal damage. The game was closed out by Ethan Getting, who earned his third save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.
