Members of the Wayne State University women's outdoor track and field team are set to participate in several Last Chance Meets this week. These events provide an opportunity for athletes to improve their chances of qualifying for the NCAA Championships, scheduled to take place in Pueblo, Colorado, from May 22-24. The selections for the NCAA Championships will be revealed on May 13.
The Hillsdale Last Chance Meet on Wednesday will feature several events with Wayne State athletes. Hanne Bastiaansen is competing in the 200m Dash, aiming to surpass her school record of 24.03 set in 2024. The 4x100m Relay team consists of Catalla Jones, Elyse Miller, Hanne Bastiaansen, and Rachel Overgaard, who currently hold a school record of 46.17 achieved in 2025.
Makenzie Wellner will compete in both the 100m Hurdles Final and the 400m Hurdles Final alongside Keneisha Thomas. Olivia Findlay and Ava Steinhebel are participating in the High Jump event while Annabelle Smith competes in Long Jump.
On Friday at the Michigan Len Paddock Open, participants include Bastiaansen again in the 200m Dash and Rachel Felstow competing in the 800m Run. The same relay team from Hillsdale will also compete here.
The meet also features a 4x400m Relay with Avery Wilson joining Thomas, Miller, and Renae Kutcha. In addition to Smith's participation in Long Jump again, Wellner is joined by Megan Zahnow for another attempt at the hurdles finals.
Selections for those advancing to nationals will be disclosed next week as these student-athletes strive towards qualification.
