Mason McGuire was acknowledged for his versatility on the field, earning Second Team honors in both catcher and second base positions. He played in 46 of the team's 50 games with a batting average of .344. "McGuire juggled all of those defensive responsibilities while hitting a career-high," reads the release. He also led the team with 36 runs scored and recorded 15 stolen bases.
Jacoby Dale had an impressive season as well, participating in 46 games and starting in center field for most. He achieved a batting average of .331 and was particularly effective during GLIAC play with a .375 average. The release highlights that Dale "secured the longest hitting streak of any player in the Green and Gold at 16 games."
Caleb Sanders transferred from Dayton and improved as the season progressed. Playing mostly as an outfielder, he ended with a .323 batting average over 45 games. Sanders excelled in conference play with a .351 average.
Gabe Nazelli significantly contributed to Wayne State's pitching lineup by making nine starts out of his 11 appearances this season. He pitched 53.1 innings with a 3.38 ERA overall but performed even better within league play with a reduced ERA of 2.84.
Bennett Hitzelberger followed up his previous First Team All-GLIAC honor by achieving a Second Team distinction this year after playing in 47 games. He led Wayne State's batting statistics with an average of .349 and topped several categories including RBI.
Ethan Getting emerged as Wayne State's most dependable relief pitcher, appearing in a team-high of 18 games from the bullpen. His performance against Florida Southern earned him recognition as GLIAC Pitcher of the Week.
These athletes' contributions reflect their dedication to their sport and have been rightfully recognized by GLIAC's postseason awards.
