Freshmen Claudia Portillo and Ting-Yu Kuo from Wayne State University's women's golf team have been recognized as Second Team All-GLIAC, according to an announcement by the league office.
Portillo, hailing from Madrid, Spain, led her team with a scoring average of 76.32 over 1,908 strokes in ten tournaments and 25 rounds. She achieved six top-10 finishes and eight top-25 placings. Notably, Portillo's scoring average set a new program record, surpassing the previous mark held by Beca Vestman. Her notable performances included winning Wayne State's Warrior Invitational and achieving two sub-par rounds at Findlay's William Beall Fall Classic.
Kuo, who is currently competing in the NCAA Championship Finals in Nevada, ended her first collegiate season with a 77.12 scoring average across ten tournaments and 25 rounds. She recorded five top-10 finishes and was responsible for the team's only round in the 60s this season—a score of 69 during the NCAA East Regional that secured her place in the NCAA Finals.
Both athletes are expected to return next season along with their teammates, including sophomore Clara Laffitte.
