Wayne State University's men's fencing team has equaled its previous record by having six members named to the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team for the 2024-25 season. This marks the sixth year that the GLIAC has acknowledged student-athletes from non-GLIAC sports with these academic honors.
To qualify, student-athletes must be active on their team's roster at the end of the season and cannot be freshmen or first-year transfer students. The grade-point averages considered are calculated through the fall semester, as it was the last grading period before the season concluded.
The All-Academic Excellence Team recognizes those with a cumulative GPA between 3.5 and 4.0. The honorees include:
- Sam Garrett, Jr., from San Francisco, California, majoring in Marketing with a GPA of 3.75. This is his second consecutive year on the team.
- Mitchell Gatrell, Jr., from Livonia, Michigan, majoring in Finance with a GPA of 3.59, also marking his second straight year on the team.
- Sam Gneuhs, So., from Mason, Ohio, studying Sport Management with a GPA of 3.83; this is his first year eligible.
- Bryce Heim, Jr., from Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, pursuing Chemistry Honors with a GPA of 3.89; he is on the team for the second consecutive year.
- Eyad Marouf, Sr., from Alexandria, Egypt, majoring in Biological Sciences with a GPA of 3.67; this is his third consecutive appearance on the team.
- Zeyad Nofal, R-Fr., from Cairo, Egypt, studying Mechanical Engineering with a GPA of 3.85; this is his first year eligible.
