Wayne State University has announced updates to its football coaching staff under head coach Tyrone Wheatley. Entering his third season, Wheatley has appointed DeJuan Garland as the Defensive Line Coach and Ahmed Saleh as the Linebackers Coach and Special Teams Coordinator. Additionally, Je'Darius Isaac will take on the role of Director of Player Personnel and Player Development Coach.

Garland returns to Wayne State after previously serving as a graduate assistant in 2018, focusing on the defensive line. His coaching career includes positions at Warren Fitzgerald High School, Center Line High School, South Lake High School, and Anchor Bay High School. Garland's playing history includes stints at Grand Rapids Community College and William Penn University.

Saleh joined Wayne State in 2024 as a defensive and special teams assistant before being promoted in 2025. He holds degrees from Michigan State University and Central Michigan University. Saleh's coaching experience spans Dearborn Fordson High School, Colorado State University, Madonna University, Northern Michigan, and two NFL Bill Walsh Coaching Fellowships with the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers.

Isaac joins Wayne State with a background that includes playing for Army and Jacksonville State University. He holds advanced degrees from Jacksonville State University, Central Michigan University, and Capella University. Currently serving as Chief Operations Officer for Detroit Community Health Connection, Isaac brings extensive experience from roles in the pharmaceutical industry and consulting.

These appointments are part of Wheatley's strategy to strengthen Wayne State's football program for the upcoming season.
