Wayne State women's golf ranks high nationally for academic achievement

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's golf program has been recognized for its academic excellence, ranking 18th nationally among all NCAA Division II squads with a team GPA of 3.698 for the 2024-25 academic year. This announcement came from the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) on Wednesday as part of their WGCA All-Scholar Team GPA Award recipients.

Clara Laffitte led the team academically with a perfect 4.0 GPA in Biochemistry and Chemical Biology. Other notable performances included Claudia Portillo with a 3.96 in Management, Ting-Yu Kuo with a 3.95 in Marketing, and Sabel Imesch who achieved a 3.90 in Global Supply Chain Management. Orianna Bylsma and Sophia Wygonik completed the team with GPAs of 3.31 in Neuroscience and 3.07 in Accounting, respectively.

Sabel Imesch received several individual honors, including being named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District squad for the second consecutive season, making the WGCA All-American Scholar Team, and earning recognition on the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team for two years running.

Clara Laffitte also joined Imesch on the Excellence Team during her first year of eligibility, while Claudia Portillo and Ting-Yu Kuo were featured on the WGCA All-American Scholar Team.
