Ziad Elsissy, a two-time Olympic fencer from Egypt, shared his journey of resilience and determination in an exclusive interview with Olympics.com. Reflecting on his experiences at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where he narrowly missed a bronze medal, Elsissy described it as one of the toughest moments of his life. Despite the setback, he found inspiration in his late father's dream and his wife, Nouran Gohar, to continue pursuing his goals.

Elsissy's path to recovery involved taking a break from fencing for eight months. During this time, he focused on regaining mental strength and motivation. He credits engineering problem-solving skills learned during his studies at Wayne State University for helping him approach challenges in both sport and life.

As he prepares for the LA 2028 Olympics alongside Gohar, who is also aiming to compete in squash, Elsissy remains committed to achieving Olympic success. His recent achievements include a podium finish at the FIE World Cup and a gold medal at the African Championships Lagos 2025.

With Egyptian fencing gaining momentum and support from family and students alike, Elsissy is determined to bring home an Olympic medal in sabre fencing.
