Wayne State University’s baseball program has announced changes to its coaching staff for the 2025-26 academic year. Head coach Ryan Kelley, now in his eighteenth year leading the team, named Seth Marano as pitching coach and Paul Vossen as graduate assistant coach.
Marano previously served as a volunteer assistant after finishing his playing career with Wayne State in 2024. He spent six years as a collegiate athlete, starting at Lansing Community College before transferring to Wayne State in 2020. During his time with the Warriors, Marano appeared in 35 games and made 32 starts. He recorded a career earned run average (ERA) of 4.47 over 189.1 innings and finished with a record of 15-7. In the 2023 season, he posted a standout performance with a 6-1 record and a 3.68 ERA over 66 innings, earning All-GLIAC Second Team honors.
Coach Kelley commented on Marano’s appointment: "Coach Marano was a very impressive competitor with tremendous pitchability skills during his playing career in our uniform. He accumulated significant mound time at a high-level junior college, in the Northwoods League, and obviously in NCAA regular and postseason action with Wayne State University. His playing and training experiences will be instrumental as he relates to our present and future pitching staff. He will be instrumental in cultivating a competitive environment that will compliment skill set and training development. Yet, his passion for our baseball program, University, and our student-athletes, will help advance our culture forward."
Paul Vossen joins the coaching staff following his own collegiate playing career that included stops at three universities over five seasons: University of Iowa (2020-21), Utah Valley University (2022), and St. Bonaventure (2024-25). Originally from Reno, Nevada, Vossen enters the program as graduate assistant coach.
"We are very excited to add coach Vossen to our coaching staff," said Coach Kelley about Vossen’s addition. "His knowledge of our game, desire to be with our University, and passion for Detroit were impressive touch points during this selection process. He has built key experiences from significant stops across the United States during his baseball journey. We look forward to him assisting with our position-player development, day-to-day operations, and continuing to enhance the Wayne State University baseball program. It will be great having him in the Green and Gold!"
