Wayne State University head football coach Tyrone Wheatley has announced the team captains for the 2025 season. Entering his third year leading the Warriors, Wheatley named senior Elijah Fowlkes, redshirt senior Angel Carrillo, and redshirt junior Quincy Salter as captains for the upcoming campaign.

Fowlkes, from Cleveland Heights, Ohio, will serve as captain on defense. He has played in 24 games over three seasons with Wayne State and started 21 times. Last season, Fowlkes started all 11 games at safety and earned the Ron Solack Memorial "35" Award. The award recognizes a player who displays pride in wearing the Wayne State uniform and plays with enthusiasm. In 2024, he tied for seventh in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) in assisted tackles with 30 and was tied for eleventh in total tackles with 61.

Carrillo joined Wayne State this summer after transferring from Livingstone College. Over two seasons with Livingstone's Blue Bears, he appeared in 19 games and recorded 47 receptions for 695 yards and three touchdowns. Carrillo will be captain on offense.

Salter, from Livonia, Michigan, has participated in all 22 games over the past two seasons at Wayne State. He made a total of 48 tackles during that time. Salter was nominated by Wayne State for the 2025 William Campbell Trophy. His special teams contributions include playing on kickoff return units in 14 games, punt coverage in six contests, kickoff coverage in three games, and punt return units in two contests across the last two years. Salter will serve as Special Teams Captain.

Wayne State is set to open its 2025 football season against Tiffin on Thursday at Tom Adams Field with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
