The Wayne State University men's golf team is positioned second after the first day of competition at Malone University's Glenmoor Fall Invitational in Canton, Ohio. The event features 12 teams and 72 individual golfers.
Andrew Daily from Brighton, Michigan, leads all competitors with a five-under-par score of 139 after shooting rounds of 70 and 69 on Monday. Head coach Mike Horn commented on the team's performance, stating, "Could not be more proud of these young Warriors. From Andrew (Daily) leading the tournament to Harrison's (Chapman) 66 in round two, what an outstanding day for a group of inexperienced players. We had four players making their collegiate debut today, everybody contributed and what a great foundation we have placed not only for this tournament, but for the fall and for the season. Really saw a lot of growth even within the 11 hours of competition today. I'm excited to see what we can do tomorrow in trying to catch Hillsdale."
Wayne State produced two sub-70 scores during round two: Daily's 69 and Harrison Chapman's 66. Chapman's score was one shot away from tying the program's best-ever single-round record.
Other Wayne State results include Troy Chapman tied for ninth at two-over-par (146), Jack Julian at six-over-par (150), Josh Lahner at seven-over-par (151), Will Pollack at eight-over-par (152), Aidan Treharne and Shawn Sehra both at thirteen-over-par (157).
Team standings after two rounds place Hillsdale College in first at six over par (582), followed by Wayne State (+10, 586), Ashland (+15, 591), Ohio Dominican (+16, 592), and IUP (+20, 596).
The final round is scheduled for Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start at Glenmoor Country Club.
