After two weeks of away games, the Wayne State University football team is set to return home to face Quincy University. The upcoming matchup at Tom Adams Field will be the Warriors' final non-conference game before they begin their Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) schedule.

This will be only the second meeting between Wayne State and Quincy. In their first encounter, Wayne State secured a 33-7 victory, gaining 537 yards of total offense compared to Quincy's 115 yards.

Quincy enters the contest with a 2-1 record for the season, having defeated Concordia-St. Paul and Lincoln (Mo.), while losing narrowly to Roosevelt. Jason Killday, in his second year as head coach, has led Quincy to an 8-5 record during his tenure. Before joining Quincy, Killday was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Truman State for eight years.

Freshman quarterback Bradyn Little leads Quincy’s offense with 695 passing yards and five touchdowns, completing 74 percent of his passes without throwing an interception. He has also contributed three rushing touchdowns on just 12 carries. Kamrin Cox is both Quincy's leading receiver and rusher, with 19 receptions for 176 yards and two rushing touchdowns.

On defense, Brock Wiley and Brock Inman are key contributors for Quincy. Wiley has recorded 24 tackles, including two-and-a-half tackles for loss and two pass break-ups. Inman leads the team in solo tackles with 14.

Kicker Kiko Moreno has made all extra-point attempts this season and was named GLVC Special Teams Player of the Week after a strong performance against Lincoln. Senior Alex Schattin handles punting duties for Quincy.

For Wayne State, linebacker play has been a strength so far this season. Martell Williams leads the team with 25 tackles and one fumble recovery. Logan McGraw has made an impact as well, tallying 24 tackles—six for loss—and forcing two fumbles. Max Edwards rounds out the linebacker group with 18 tackles.

Wayne State's offense showed improvement in its most recent game against Wisconsin-La Crosse by scoring most of its points in the fourth quarter and outgaining its opponent in that period.

Redshirt freshman Drew Hickmott leads Wayne State receivers through three games with ten catches for 159 yards and one touchdown.

Linebacker Logan McGraw has stood out early in his first season with several high-tackle performances and ranks among national leaders in tackles for loss per game at the Division II level.

Senior safety Elijah Fowlkes recently recorded his fifth career interception at Findlay and followed up with a sack and forced fumble against Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Wayne State’s roster features many new faces this year: only 53 players are returners from last season, while there are 74 newcomers including freshmen and transfers. The coaching staff also includes seven new hires along with internal promotions.

The Warriors have launched the Warrior Sports Network to broadcast games this season, featuring longtime broadcaster Sean Baligian as play-by-play announcer. All GLIAC games will be available on FloSports; select other contests can be viewed online as well.

According to the GLIAC preseason coaches’ poll, Wayne State is projected to finish sixth in the conference behind Ferris State, Grand Valley State, Saginaw Valley State, Davenport, and Michigan Tech.

Wayne State continues to face challenging schedules each year; last season they played what was ranked as one of the toughest slates nationally among Division II teams based on opponents’ winning percentages.

The current roster includes student-athletes from fourteen states plus Ontario, Canada—with most hailing from Michigan—and features several sets of brothers as well as players whose parents played college or professional football.

Fans can engage further through “Weekly with Wheatley,” a podcast hosted by head coach Tyrone Wheatley alongside analyst Brady Beedon each Wednesday before home games.
