Wayne State fencing opens season at OSU Open and Duals

The Wayne State University men's and women's fencing teams are set to begin their 2025-26 season in Columbus, Ohio, at The Ohio State University. The season opener will feature participation in two events: the OSU Open on Saturday, October 11, and the OSU Duals on Sunday, October 12.

The OSU Open is an individual competition that includes both men's and women's events across all three fencing weapons: epee, foil, and sabre. Women's epee and foil bouts are scheduled to start at 8:30 AM, followed by women's sabre at 9:45 AM. Men's epee is set for 12:30 PM, with men's foil at 1:45 PM and men's sabre concluding the day at 3:00 PM.

On Sunday, Wayne State will participate in the OSU Duals, a team event featuring seven squads. Alongside Wayne State, the other participating teams are Cleveland State, Denison, Michigan, Ohio State, OSU's Club team, and Purdue. The first bout begins at 8:30 AM and the final competition starts at 3:15 PM.

The schedule for Sunday lists the following matchups for Wayne State:

Men's:

- 9:45 AM - WSU vs. Purdue

- 11:00 AM - WSU vs. Ohio State (Club)

- 12:15 PM - WSU vs. Cleveland State

- 2:00 PM - WSU vs. Ohio State (Varsity)

Women's:

- 11:00 AM - WSU vs. Michigan

- 12:15 PM - WSU vs. Ohio State (Varsity)

- 2:00 PM - WSU vs. Purdue

- 3:15 PM - WSU vs. Cleveland State

Additionally, sophomore epeeist Mahmoud Elsayed from Tanta, Gharbia, Egypt, will compete at a Satellite World Cup event in Split, Croatia, on Saturday, October 11.
