Ludovica Mancini, a senior from Wayne State University, participated as the only representative of her team at The Ohio State University's OSU Open on Saturday, October 11. Competing in the foil category, Mancini finished first among 33 participants with a perfect 10-0 record.
Mancini began the event by defeating all five of her opponents during the pool round and achieved a touch differential of +17 (25-8). This performance earned her the second seed for the direct elimination stage and an automatic advance past the Table of 64.
In subsequent rounds, Mancini recorded consecutive 15-3 victories over Lauren Bailey and Allison Kozinski to reach the Table of Eight. She then defeated tenth-seeded Lira Cannon 15-11 to move into the semifinals. Mancini overcame Velma Hall 15-9 before facing Maria Cojocari in the final bout, where she secured a 15-7 win to claim first place.
The Wayne State women's fencing team is scheduled to compete again at Ohio State on Sunday, October 12, for the OSU Duals.
