The Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team began its 2025-26 season with a strong showing at the Davenport Invitational in Kentwood, Michigan. Over the two-day event, the Warriors secured victories in 12 out of 17 events and led the five-team competition with a total of 1,048 points.
Head coach Sean Peters commented on the team's performance: "The meet was a great success for the Warriors. We went in with an open mind and wanted to gauge where we are at, and I think there is a lot of potential and there were successful performances. I didn't expect too much, as it is our first meet, but i definitely think that the goods were good, and the 'needs improved' will get there. Either way, we learned a lot this weekend, and happy we are under way."
Wayne State's relay teams achieved several wins during the invitational. The 400 medley relay team—Olin Charnstrom, Gabriel Arias, Lorenzo Tassinari, and Tomas Osorio—finished with a time of 3:18.93. The 200 free relay squad consisted of Tomas Osorio, Leland Curanovic, Lochlain Hart, and Gabriel Arias and posted a time of 1:22.80. In the 200 medley relay (1:30.23), Olin Charnstrom teamed up again with Arias, Tassinari, and Curanovic; while Charnstrom joined Osorio, Curanovic, and Tassinari for victory in the 400 free relay (3:01.55).
Individual swimmers also contributed significantly to Wayne State's overall score. William Debroux won both distance freestyle events—the 500 free (4:31.22) and the 1000 free (9:20.57). Gabriel Arias claimed victories in three individual events: the 200 IM (1:51.10), 400 IM (3:59.26), and 200 backstroke (1:45.46). Other winners included Harrison Arnold in the 200 free (1:42.52), Olin Charnstrom in the 100 backstroke (49.43), and Paul DeMartini in the 200 butterfly (1:52.37).
